——————————————–

What better way to open the 2023 Electric Film Series than at the very beginning?

Up first is “The Kingdom of the Fairies” which celebrates its 120th anniversary. From prolific storytelling legend, Georges Melies (“A Trip to the Moon”) comes the fantastical tale of a valiant prince who looks to save a princess from the clutches of a witch.

Next, the 1909’s “The Drunkard’s Reformation,” a morality play about a family man who comes to the stark realization that he has a problem that needs fixing.

Then, gears to 1912 with “The Cameraman’s Revenge,” an animated comedy that delves into the complications of a most unusual love triangle.

Finally, your trip to the Silent Film Era closes out with 1914’s “Gertie the Dinosaur,” a creative part live-action/part animated tale in which a cartoonist takes us to prehistoric times by way of the beguiling title character.

Adding to this most unique, must-see trip to the Silent Film Era will be live piano accompaniment from the gifted Matt Szymanski. Yes.. another amazing reason to attend!

And as usual, The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. They’re also about film history and context. On hand to talk about these influential short films will be special guest, Jason Jackson. Not only is Jackson a talented screenwriter and quite the film historian, but he’s also the founder of Red Carpet Cinema, an organization that prides itself on classic film events.

Be sure to arrive at the screening a little early and leave an optional donation. This donation will get you a delicious menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie.
