st george art museum

Following the immense success of the St. George Art Museum’s Facing Fire Exhibition, the museum will showcase three new exhibits this fall through Nov. 26: “Our Hidden World: A Study of Human Emotion” by local artist Audrey Taylor, “Day of the Dead” juried exhibition and celebration and “Big Sky” from the museum’s permanent collection.

A multi-disciplinary studio artist living and working in St. George, Taylor (“Our Hidden World”) specializes in abstract expressionist painting and modern geometric sculpture. Her work can be seen at Arrowhead Gallery, Art Provides, Sunset Framer and Gallery, Caffe Elevato and River Rock Roasting Co.

With parties, food, drinks and activities that the dead enjoyed while alive, “Day of the Dead” honors the lives of the deceased. At the museum’s Day of the Dead celebration on Oct. 19, there will be refreshments served and a special performance by Danza y Color Utah, a Mexican Folklore Dance Group.

There will be many other fun activities to take part in during the Day of the Dead celebration, including an interactive ofrenda where guests can write messages to their dearly departed loved ones. Everyone is invited to explore this fun, donation-based event.

Big Sky features a selection of artwork from the museum’s permanent collection. One of the artists featured prominently in this exhibit, Charles Thomas, drew inspiration for painting the sky from the famously stunning sunsets of Arizona.

With over 1,100 pieces in the permanent collection, the St. George Art Museum is open from Tuesday- Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The museum is donation based. Donations directly support the education and operating expenses of the museum.
