Angels With Dirty Faces Main Title Card

The Electric Film Series returns to the Electric Theater on Tuesday, March 21 at 6 p.m. (Doors at 5:30 p.m.) with a screening of a James Cagney-headlined epic from the 1930s;

Angels With Dirty Faces” (1938)

——————————————–

From 1938 comes this crime/drama starring the forever iconic James Cagney as Rocky Sullivan, a bold and brash criminal who, after spending years in prison, returns to the streets where he once grew up. He eventually reconnects with a friend from his youth, now a priest, who’s presented with the daunting task of trying to prevent a group of hooligans from falling under Sullivan’s persuasive influence. Cagney was nominated for an Oscar for his charismatic turn in this much-beloved movie.

Per usual, The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. They’re also about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings is a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. The special guest for “Angels With Dirty Faces” is Southern California-based filmmaker, Mike Caravella. Caravella made a splash on the film festival circuit a couple of years back with a goofy but spirited short film called “Astral Plane Drifter” which will be extended into a feature film later this year. As it turns out, Caravella grew up on the classics and he just so happens to be a big James Cagney fan making him the perfect special guest for this screening.

Be sure to arrive at the screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie.

On a final note, don’t forget to spread the word about the 2023 Electric Film Series!
